Final Design

This is our final design created for a social media app EDI -StoryTelling. Its purpose is to provide a safe space for users to share their EDI-related experiences. The purpose is to try to build empathy and understanding for all users about inclusivity and accessibility issues within our world.

Summary

Project Goals

Our main goals for this project are as follows:

  • Create an accessible application which allows users to share their stories about EDI

  • Provide a platform where people can speak about their stories

  • Provide a space for people to learn about others’ experiences in order to gain new perspectives

Methods and Results

I led this design project as project manager and worked with my team to create a couple iterations and eventually a final prototype. In order to accomplish this we did the following:

  • User testing

  • Multiple Wireframe Iterations

Wireframes & Testing

Low-Fidelity

This low-fidelity wireframe was created to implement the layout we wanted to create.

We performed task tests which measured:

  • Time on task

  • Error rate

  • Error severity

  • Verbal comments

Medium-Fidelity

Using the testing results from our low-fidelity wireframe, we moved on to a medium-fidelity prototype.

This prototype added visual elements and slight changes to our previous structure.

We again performed task tests to understand how our users navigated through this application.

What I’ve Learned

Overall this project taught me a lot about design, as well as EDI. Throughout this I’ve learned the importance of designing for various types of abilities to ensure that all users have a good experience. My team and I tried to keep accessible design as a focus throughout our entire project. I’ve been learning that as a designer I won’t understand what my users’ needs are and that is why testing all types of users is so important.
